Phinneywood Rising's next meeting Sept. 17 will include a potluck and strategy session for fall activism. Watch for Phinneywood Rising's group email and respond to RSVP.

Hands Around Green Lake is coming!
Our neighbors in Green Lake Rising are working hard to get the word out about an ambitious plan to link hands around Green Lake Oct. 4 starting at 2:30 p.m. (note new time). Their little signs, wheat-pasted to telephone poles around the area, are drawing a lot of attention already. To make a ring all the way around Green Lake, they need 3,000 participants. Please consider volunteering for this effort -- you can post signs near where you live, or volunteer to help the day of the event. Learn more about it here.

Joining a mass protest can be a big commitment. Challenge yourself to participate once a month - or more often. See the Seattle Protests list for a list of ongoing weekly protests.
Sept. 21 - Sun Day, a national day of action celebrating the power of clean energy. One event is currently scheduled in Seattle, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church on 80th Street at noon. Here's a great podcast interview with environmentalist and author Bill McKibben on the rising global movement around renewables. Very hopeful!
October 4, 2:30 p.m. - Hands Around Green Lake. We are joining up with Communities Rising Green Lake to help sponsor this event. We need to get at least 3,000 people involved to fully ring the lake. Consider volunteering!
Oct. 18 - No Kings is back! Stay tuned for more information about a new nationwide protest.

Phinneywood Rising's bannering project happens every Tuesday in September. Join us at the Highway 99 north pedestrian overpass at Woodland Park from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. (note, this is a change to the time). We plan to banner every Tuesday evening in September. Here's a map.
Thursdays: Defending Democracy rally at 73rd & Greenwood (Ken's Market), 4:30-5:30 p.m. An hour of noisemaking, sign and handwaving, and conversations on the sidewalk.
DEADLINE SEPT 15: Tell the EPA not to gut the climate rule that protects our health and safety. This is another federal regulations rule change, one that would roll back the finding that greenhouse gases are harmful. Help stop a very bad proposal from going into effect with your words. Pro-fossil-fuel advocates are writing in favor -- don't let them win! Want some inspiration? Read the public comments (I like this one), then write your own and submit by following this link.
DEADLINE SEPT. 19: Tell the National Forest Service not to allow roads to be built in established wilderness areas (the "roadless rule"). Comments that are personal, specific and data-backed are especially helpful. Submit by following this link.

Use the app 5calls, which provides a script and phone numbers for a wide range of issues. If you don’t want to use their app, read their FAQ on how to make your call more effective.
Little Free Pantry - Give or take some food at the Presbyterian Church @ 70th & Phinney, or between 78th & 79th on Dayton (looks like a Little Free Library). Food banks are low right now, and the need is high - please consider providing food for your neighbors.

Join a new book club centered on "Beautiful Trouble: A Toolbox for Revolution," which brings together dozens of seasoned artists and activists from around the world to distill their best practices into a toolbox for creative action. It is a kind of roadmap to help Americans defeat fascism. Communities Rising is organizing a group to read the book, then use the ideas it proposes to help make beautiful trouble in this fraught time. Sign up here.
Communities Rising's sold-out showing at the Crest Theater of Robert Reich's brilliantly inspiring film, "The Last Class," was so well-received that CR has scheduled another showing of this film for Sat., Sept. 20 at 11 am. Tickets can be purchased HERE for $19; a portion of any profit will be donated to the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.
